Mayence, Schott (PlattenNr. 36) [1785] Folio oblong. 1 f., 33 pp. Title with beautiful ornamental border and decorated with instruments. Title browned, at the top with "No.14." in ink of old hand, some minor ink dots nearby and at the bottom with a nearly invisable annotation in pecil of contemporary old hand. Otherwise partly foxed, the last 4 leaves with some light waterstaining at the outer white margin. Last leaf creased. Wide-margined untrimmed copy, therefore with marginal tears. Overall in good condition. In attractive cardboard folder decorated with blue lilies.

EXTREMELY RARE SECOND EDITION of the 3 sonatas, published shortly after the first edition by Artaria in 1784. For us in the trade since 1930 of the first edition only 4 copies and of this second edition only 2 copies traceable for us. Neither first nor second edition in bookauctionrecords online/ JAP. Only one copy traceable for us at international auction market at Sotheby's in 2011 at hammerprice 10.626 GBP without buyers premium and VAT! Haberkamp p. 137 lists only 6 copies of this edition: "The edition published by Schott in Mainz follows the Artaria printing in some points, but according to Müller (Schott p. 56) it is not a pure reprint, but more a new edition ... "The sonatas were probably written in Paris in the summer of 1778. This edition, dating from Mozart's lifetime, contains the famous "Rondo alla turca" (here "All[e]grino alla turca" p. 20ff.), whose autograph manuscript is lost. - Köchel p. 324 f.; Hoboken Coll. vol. 11, 83; RISM M 6781; Müller (Schott p. 94/5). Bei Haberkamp S. 137 sind nur 6 Exemplare dieser Ausgabe verzeichnet: "Die bei Schott in Mainz erschienene Ausgabe folgt zwar in einigen Punkten dem Artaria-Druck, ist aber nach Müller (Schott S. 56) kein reiner Nachdruck, sondern mehr eine Neuausgabe ... " Die Sonaten sind vermutlich im Sommer 1778 in Paris entstanden. Diese aus Mozarts Lebzeiten stammende Ausgabe enthält das berühmte "Rondo alla turca" (hier "All[e]grino alla turca" S. 20ff.), dessen autographes Manuskript verloren ist. - Köchel S. 324 f.; Slg.
