In the 1901/02 season, the work was performed on numerous major stages in the United States. Paderewski was not only a successful composer, but also made a name for himself as a pianist and charismatic politician. He became Polish foreign minister and chairman of the Council of Ministers in 1919 and signed the Treaty of Versailles for Poland on June 28.
